My name is Janet Louise Ogden (nee Tompkins), I was interested in Family History long before I got hooked, which
was after the death of my father, over 20 years ago. It really got off the ground, when I started visiting Spain and learning to speak Spanish,
when, lots of Spanish People, asked me "Where are you from"?I said England, they said "You are not English" so I asked them, if not, what am I ? The reply was "French or Something"
this happened many times and still goes on today. This was very strange as, rumour had it that the Bevers in our family were, from France!! I thought that, if, my mother now retired would do our Family Tree, I could
go to visit the birthplace of our French Ancestors, or put an end to the rumour. I started to borrow Books from the Library for her to read, like Trade Directories, Printed Parish Registers etc., which she enjoyed,
and from which, she took many notes, which I still find useful, but apart from her recollections on the Family that was it. By this time I had got bitten by the bug, so I set off one Easter Monday in search of my
Great Grandmother Charlotte's Burial Place, as she, was the daughter of Ann Bevers. This I found and lots more, but still No French Ancestors, I still live in hope, I have even helped Anne Carter, by sending her
information, to put in her Book The Beever Story, and had a lot of help from her in return, but to no avail. Anne's book is about William Beever, son of Abraham of Heckmondwike and grandson of Thomas Beever of
Penistone 1600 - 1651 it is very probable that we owe our decent to William's younger brother Thomas Beevor of Heckmondwike. Anne wants me to write similar book to complete the other half. But I still can not find the
baptisms of Abraham Bever b 1670c and Abraham Bever b 1694c To arrive at my great great grandmother's maiden name, of Bever I had to travel the Distaff Lines of my mother's Wilkinson's, Cooper's, to Bever's
and Parkin's. I have also done my grandfather's Distaff line, Wilkinson , Bottomley, Hill, and Hall Families. Last but not least my own maiden name of Tompkins, Sanders, and Pickles Spencer-Mackinder etc. |
